No Place for Hate

Standing up to bullies and against bigotry is never easy – particularly for young people. This is why ADL’s No Place for Hate® initiative empowers the whole school community – teachers and students, administrators and parents – to tackle prejudice, bullying and intergroup conflict.

The No Place for Hate® initiative provides educators and students with the resources to ensure that anti-bias and diversity education are an integral part of the school curriculum.  No Place for Hate® also helps to create and sustain inclusive school environments where all students feel valued and have the opportunity to succeed by promoting respect for individual difference while challenging bigotry and prejudice.  Launched in Austin schools in the fall of 2004, the popular initiative has been embraced by hundreds of campuses throughout the Central Texas region.

At Oak Hill we were proud to be designated a No Place for Hate school again for the 2019-2020 school year! 

In order to maintain our designation as a No Place for Hate campus, we have to complete three school-wide activities each year that promote a campus environment that is hate-free. Here are some examples of past activities we have done:  "Our World Our School" culture fair, "No Name Calling Week," in which we completed an activity each day; one them being a "Wall of Compliments," and we also completed a "Mix-It Up" Day where the kids were randomly selected to sit in different seats at lunch than they are used to. This helped promote kids getting to know each other and making new friends.

Also as part of receiving our No Place for Hate Designation, the whole school must sign a Resolution of Respect as a pledge of their dedication to being part of a No Place for Hate campus.
