A Little Thankful Spot

We just want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, if you celebrate it, and if you don't have a wonderful break!! Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving in the traditional way or not, it is a wonderful time to think of all the things we have to be thankful for, even when times are tough. I am thankful for family, my home, health, food, my pets, my friends, and so much more!! What are you thankful for?

Listen to this story, A Little Thankful Spot by Diane Alber for some inspiration!

Enjoy the break and spending time with your families!! We will see you back soon!

Conflict-Resolution with Kelso's Choices

We have been learning about Kelso's Choices ,and how we can solve our own small problems, in our guidance lessons this week and next! Here is a recap of what we have been learning.

Remember, when it is a small problem (argument with a friend, not wanting to play the same game, not wanting to share, etc.) try at least two of Kelso's Choices. You can try more than two if you like, but you need to at least try two before going to an adult for help. Why do we try two? Sometimes you try one and it doesn't work right away, so you may need to try one more choice to try and solve your problem.

If it is a BIG problem (bullying vs. someone was just being mean, you are being physically hurt, feel in danger or threatened, or someone else is being hurt or in danger) then please tell an adult right away. You do not need to try Kelso's Choices first in these cases.

Have fun singing along with Kelso, if you need a reminder about the choices and want to get a catchy song stuck in your head! ;-)

New SEL Trait of the Month: Self-Discipline

Hi Eagles! We really enjoyed seeing everyone dress up for the Red Ribbon Week spirit days this week!! It was fun to have some cheer. We have wrapped up all our lessons on bullying and will be moving into conflict-resolution and how you can solve small problems using Kelso's Choices during the month of November. We also have a new SEL Trait of the Month for November...Self-Discipline, also known as Self-Control! Watch Ms. Ahumada try to practice some self-discipline.

We practice self-discipline every day by making choices big and small. What are some ways you have practiced good self-discipline? What has been a struggle for you? Here are some other fun videos you can check out to help serve as a reminder of what it means to have self-discipline.

We look forward to checking in with your teachers this month to see how you are practicing self-discipline!
